Hawaii Hiking Adventures

It wasn’t until this year that I found a new love for hiking. At the beginning of 2015, my family and I decided to make a goal of going on a hike at least once a month. Before, I used to think that hiking really wasn’t my thing because I hardly exercised. But now I’ve come to realize that hiking is so much more than working out your body, it’s experiences that only some people get the chance to have. It’s also a fun way to bond with family members or whoever you’re hiking with. Here are some of the hikes we went on.

1.Ka’ena Point Trail

Ka’ena Point Trail was such a pretty sight to see. Going on this hike, we were basically walking right alongside the ocean. It got super rocky at times, but it wasn’t too bad. Also, there wasn’t that much shade, so luckily we brought out sunscreen along with us. At the end, it led to the Ka’ena Point Natural Area where we saw some native plants and animals. My favorite part was seeing the Hawaiian Monk Seals, they’re too cute!

2. Aiea Loop Trail

Aiea Loop Trail was another fun trail to go on. What’s cool about this hike is that you really do go in a loop. Like most hikes when you go on them, you have to go back out the same way, but not with this one. My favorite part of this hike was getting to see the H3 freeway from the trail.

3. Kuliouou Ridge Trail

Kuliouou Ridge Trail was probably the toughest hike I’ve been on so far, but the most rewarding hike. It took my friend and I a total of 5 hours to complete. I loved how the scenery changes as continue on the trail. The killer part of this hike would definitely be the stairs towards the end of the hike. But once you get to the top to see the view, all of the perseverance was worth it! Even though my legs hurt the next couple days after this hike, I think I would probably do this again.

4. Ehukai Pillbox Trail

Ehukai Pillbox Trail is kind of similar to the Lanikai Pillbox Trail, but less crowded. It was another fun trail to go on and even though it was a short hike, it was still worth it. I thought the peace sign on the pillbox is a great signature touch for this hike. I would always see people posting pictures of this hike and I was glad to finally go on it myself.

I’ve lived in Hawaii my entire life and I admit to taking this island for granted sometimes. By doing these hikes, it really makes me appreciate the island more and makes me feel super blessed to be living in such a beautiful place.

I encourage everyone to go on hiking adventures! Even to those who were like me before, you never know, you might learn to love hiking like how I did!
